The Sunday afternoon of the Festival has always been a chilled-out event. Sit and listen to good music and great acts whilst enjoying a cold beer and a picnic.
There is a BBQ, ice-cream stall and fully licensed bar available all afternoon, as well as a children's funfair and bouncy slide.
This year there will also be supervised activities for the Under 5s provided by Warborough and Shillingford Pre-School from 12 noon until 4.00pm; and the St. Laurence School PFA "Not so rubbish!" Fashion Show starting at around 1.30pm in the Big Top! *
So who's playing this year?
Richard Hannah Jazz/R&B/Soul/Swing vocalist
Unfortunately Richard will not be able to appear due to illness. We wish him a swift recovery.
Richard is one time lead singer with show band ‘Limelight’ and is currently performing with established Surrey R & B band Audacity. He has worked with Bon Jovi, Anastasia, Elkie Brooks, GO West and Edwin Star amongst others. In 2000 he was a finalist in Star Search; although he did not win the competition the organisers invited him back as resident singer / guest judge for the following two years of the competition. In 2004, he displayed his versatility appearing in a professional show production of ‘Sweet Charity’ playing the part made famous by Sammy Davis Junior.
Richard is a former pupil of Abbey School, where he was inspired to take up music by Warborough based School Teacher, Mike Whitten and he is a former Classmate of many of our local audience. This versatile vocalist kicks off the afternoon with the first of two short easy listening sets at 1.00pm and then returns to the stage at around 3.35pm.

“…sublime flute playing from an excellent flautist…” Musical Opinion, April 2006
Rosalie Adams Guitar & vocals
Scheduled on stage: 1.55–2.10
Rosalie says, "I just absolutely love music, everyone who knows me, know I just sing
everywhere, in the shower, along to the radio in the car and occasionally I
get up and sing on stage! So this weekend it'll just be me and my guitar,
playing some covers of well known hits.
It's really tricky to say who's
influenced me as I love such a wide range of bands, but the main genre would
be the singer/song writer style.
Look forward to seeing you all at the
weekend!"
Hedy Acoustic/Folk
Scheduled on stage: 2.20–2.50
We are an Oxford based band who perform a selection of covers and originals. We have performed live at a range of venues in Oxford including Freuds, The Chester Arms, The Wheatsheaf and the Magic Café. We have also tried a bit of busking in the Covered Market.
Our strongest influences are Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Sandy Denny and Carol King. We also like to play the occasional traditional Folk tune. The group is composed of a lead vocalist with some backing harmonies from other band members, a pianist, a cellist and a guitar.
On the keyboard is Andrew Blades. He plays Jazz and Classical style piano and has also performed regularly with a London based Rock band. Currently Andrew is studying for a PHD in English Literature. Last year he made a series of appearances on countdown and got as far as the final round.
On the Cello is Helen Rose. She also plays Bass, Fiddle, Guitar and anything else that makes a noise. She has performed at the Oxford Folk Festival with the Oxford Fiddle group and with a Rock band in Wolverhampton. She has recently completed a BSc in Computer Science, is beginning training as a nurse and also volunteers for St. John Ambulance.
The lead vocals are sung by Hedy Boland. She sings a range of styles from Rock to Choral and was part of a Blues/Soul band in Cambridgeshire for a couple of years. Recently Hedy has started teaching herself to play the violin (to the annoyance of her 22 housemates) and is about to start an MA in Ethnomusicology at SOAS, London.

The Ruins Alternative/Indie/Pop
Scheduled on stage: 4.10–4.50
Collectively known as The Ruins, Dan, Dom and Chris hail from the mighty metropolis that is Abingdon. The band thrive there. Andy comes from the mean streets of Wallingford. Andy says its best that the rest of the band know nothing of its dark secrets.
Life started out for the Ruins when Dan and Dom started playing guitar and writing tunes together late in 2004. Chris was then invited join them to play lead guitar early in 2005.
They wrote hooks, riffs, tunes and lyricised on their acoustics; then started in their quest for a drummer so they could do a demo and start gigging. After a bit of searching Andy joined them on drums in October 2005 and completed their current line-up as a four piece.
Song writing locations shifted from living room to garage and then finally into the yard where they still practice today. If you listen very carefuly and are lucky enough to live in a 3 mile radius of the yard you might just hear them!
The band recorded their first demo back in Jan 2006 enabling them to get out and play at local venues. To date they have played mainly in Oxford at venues including; The Zodiac, The Jericho Tavern, The Exeter Hall, The Port Mahon and the The Bullingdon Arms. They have also played further afield and even managed to open up for and support The Mystery Jets and The Automatic at Nottinghams Rock City in front of about 2000 students last year!
The Ruins have just completed four new songs for their second demo; Locust; Broken Machine; No Words; and Psycho. The songs were all recorded live under the watchful eye of Richard Haines at Dungeon Studios in Cumnor.

Chalk Hill Blue is:
Des Barkus: guitar & vocals
Sara le-Poore: Trumpet, tambourine
Aaron McRobbie; bass guitar & vocals
Beanie: Drums & backing vocals

Des formed the band to play his own compositions and some of his favourite music by stars such as Jimmy Hedrix, Bob Dylan, The Love and Warren Zevon who have all had a big influence on his musical creativity. Des develops his own versions of their songs and likes to give his musicians freedom to express their take on a song too.
Some of the musicians are professional or semi-pro. Sue Lyn plays with orchestras as well as touting with big rock names from Emerson, Lake & Palmer to, more recently, Take That.
Sara le-Poore has worked as a session musician, performing and recording
with various artists. Performing on all three series of BBC 'Delia Smith
Cookery Programmes'; Various Channel 4 and 5 Adverts, Documentaries, Films,
Radio. Performing and Recording with various artists on CD such as local
actor Douglas Hodge ('Cowley Road Songs') and is currently working on Doug's

has her own jazz band and likes to help doing concerts for charity.
Aaron McRobbie plays in many bands including his own band ‘Bloke'; and used to be in Sam Brown’s band.
Everyone knows Warborough’s own star drummer Beanie and will be familiar with his band ‘Las Minjita’s; latterly ‘Vole’ or some such twitching furry thing.
Geoff ("we just call him Geoff") has also played with lots of bands performing a wide range of music from Latin to Blues.
And then there’s Des himself, a truly international musician who has been writing and performing since the early seventies. He has had many bands over the years with varying musical styles ranging from the Folk and Rock he used to play in Texas; the Blues and Cajun he has played around mainland Europe as Juke Boy Barkus and Baldie McGhee; and now as Chalk Hill Blue around Oxford. And, as if that isn’t enough, he also does solo and session harmonica work!
And that Band name? A Chalk Hill Blue is a small butterfly indigenous to the Chilterns – so now you know!
Des, you need to get yourself a Myspace account!
All timings are approximate and subject to change on the day!
*In the event of rain, all musical performances will still take place on the main covered stage and the Big Top will provide a massive covered audience area. The PFA Fashion Show will move to the St. Laurence Hall.
